Suitable for beginners or slightly experienced students

Do you have a favourite artist and would love to paint like them? this intensive course will help you to do just that! Even if you are a complete beginner, I will give you the tools and advice you need to produce artwork like your favourite artist one step at a time. We will closely look at their work and start to really think like that artist does. Monet, Picasso, Degas, kandinsky...who would you like to be?

 Day 1

When you arrive at my studio, we will have a in-depth discussion about your artist. we will consider:  Media they use; When, where and how they produced the work; Technique, etc. We will then take a closer look at the artist’s work, where you will be given a few drawing exercises designed to help you think about technical and contextual elements. I supply you with a variety of materials and give you several drawing exercises to help you develop your understanding of the artists work with particular focus on composition, colour and technique. we will do some research using gallery resources and books. 

In the studio you will be taught several techniques on how to paint like your artist. You will experiment with drawing, colour mixing and technique and then transcribe one of the artist's paintings. You will decide on your own chosen composition for your final painting, which will be set as homework to draw up on a canvas that I will provide. 

Day 2

In the studio you will start to build up a wash under my guidance. I will guide you on how to gradually build up layers of paint to increase depth. You will continue with your painting, refining it until it is complete. You will be encouraged to continue practising on your own.

 What Will I need?

Some people prefer to bring their own sketchbook. No need to bring anything else as all materials are provided.
